Wide area of thundershowers developed yesterday with three major storms. Reports from the state highway patrol noted heavy rain near Vega Wildorado and Bushland with hail east of Vega. Radar showed four distinct thunderstorm cells from Vega to Friona Bushland and Palo Duro Canyon to Washburn. Officials cautioned that rainfall amounts may be delayed due to sparse population.

Airman Survives 600-Foot Ice Slab Plunge at Alaska Cliff
Airman 8/C John M. McKinney of Boston rode a sliding ice slab 600 feet down a mountain and over a 70 foot cliff at a remote radar station. He landed on a ledge, was rescued by a team, and treated at Ladd AFB Hospital with only bruises and no fractures.

Nehru to Send Aide to Peiping for Peace Talks
Prime Minister Nehru will dispatch V. K. Krishna Menon to Peiping within days to press Formosa peace talks at the request of Premier Chou Enlai. Water use in April tops 1954 level in city

Uranium Prospecting Lease Near Hereford Draws Cash Payout
Good cash has been paid for a uranium lease on 1120 acres of farm land near Hereford. KE W Kinney of Amarillo leased the land to W G Weatherford of Corsicana, oil man and geologist. Kinney has owned the land since 1918 and it is described as flat, cultivated, with no obvious uranium outcrops.

Rich Tule uranium strike reported near Silverton
The discovery on Tule Canyon six miles west of Silverton is described as the richest uranium strike on the High Plains. Four men, H Roy Brown and son Arnold of Silverton and Fred and Harold Brown of Floydada, recovered samples from Mayfield Ranch showing 0.60 to 1.45 percent uranium per pound and secured a 1,000 acre exploration contract with Roy and Alvie Mayfield. The find was announced this week after 90 days of work.
