General Chang boasts of threats of naval guns as 1,500 Marines prepare to sail for the Orient immediately. Foreigners flee to Shanghai amid rising sentiment and fear of the Cantonese hurlers defying all powers. The army may be used to quell the unrest.
The petition to call a $500,000 Potter County road bond election was accepted by the county commission yesterday. The election date will be set Monday after attorney Ray C. Johnson draws up the order. A delay of at least 80 days for legal publication is expected. Proposals include paving the 3 mile hard surfaced highway from Amarillo to the Hutchinson field and linking to the Panhandle oil field with a second connecting road through Deal to Borger.
Acting Mayor Charles A. Fisk designates Monday March 28 as University Day in Amarillo urging every citizen to support the effort to locate the University of Amarillo here. A mass meeting at Polk Street Methodist Church and volunteer drive are organized as conference officials assess funding and lot sales.
Perry Holmes of Indianapolis a private in the United States army was shot and killed today at Fort Scott during a struggle with Private O E Escue of the coast artillery who was dying in the army hospital from injuries in the same incident a pistol fight over possession of a firearm.
States and subdivisions plan to spend over 1.12 billion dollars on highways this year. Bureau of Public Roads reports show 26,841 miles of new roads and 239,847 miles under maintenance, with large bridges planned. Texas anticipates 1,800 miles of new highway construction.
Washington March 26 The plan for payment of May and June pension payments by Comptroller General McCarland and budget director Lord will be put into effect by President Coolidge. The measure ensures no interruption in pension payments between now and July 1 when extra funds become available.
Texas bankers cattle loan firms and 30 livestock inspectors endorsed the Federal Credit Intermediate Bank of Houston after a two day conference. They called the bank's services splendid and unequalled for livestock growers in the state.

Two masked men robbed the First State Bank of Ovalo on a Saturday morning, taking 4000 dollars and dropping 40 cents in change. They fled in a running sedan east at 60 to 70 mph, passing Oplin and heading toward Cross Plains, after forcing the cashier to surrender funds. Authorities in Callahan Eastland and other counties were notified. $12500 in government bonds were left behind.
Memphis March 26. D G Billingsley aged 18 was instantly killed at the C L Sloan test well near Estelline, 14 miles SE of Memphis. Eyewitnesses say his head was caught in a crank and spud brace, decapitated and face mangled. He had worked for Sloan about 12 years as a tool dresser. Funeral services will be held Sunday.
In Paramus New Jersey seven people lived in a two family frame dwelling that burned early today after an explosion blew off the roof and a second blast scattered flaming debris. Charles Salerno his wife and their five children and their son s wife occupied the home and no word has been received from any of them. Two women seen running after the first blast were believed to be alive but no bodies were found in the ruins.
Highway division headquarters received state labor checks totaling 11826.09 for the last half of February while the first half remains unpaid at 12695.82. The state department is behind only for the first halves of February and March. The February check is expected within a few days, with the last half of March due April first.
Postal receipts in Amarillo rose from 198220 to 288890 dollars in 1925 and 1926 respectively. The estimated business volume of Amarillo jobbers and manufacturers is about 100000000 dollars.
Retiring Amarillo school board members Will Durham Walter Blackburn and H B Milholland announced plans to run again. The trio has served two years and agreed to extend their service amid patron pressure. Election is Saturday April 2. The board discusses a 600000 bond issue for a one year building program as Amarillo grows. Current holdovers include J B Coe J A Bowman Ed Roberts and U S Strader.
The central committee of the Russian railway unions sent 50 000 rubies about 25 000 to the railway and transport federation for a million railway workers of the Soviet republic. The money is to aid the railway strikers and sustain their energetic struggle.
Calvin Kent, 15, and Harvey King, 11, were found dead by their grandmother on a farm two miles north of Childress after the cave they dug with their hands collapsed. The top fell in as the boys played and buried them. The younger brother alerted their grandmother. It took 30 minutes to recover the second body.
An alleged slayer surrendered to authorities after a fatal shooting at Bill Park. Police say the incident involved an instant kill with a shot fired without warning. No charges were filed as the case proceeds.
In Borger Texas Bill Parks was shot fatally in the left side at 5 p m inside the Stinnett post office. J W Popejoy surrendered to Sheriff Owenby. An inquest set for Sunday at 10 a m. Police say no argument preceded the shooting and Popejoy was within ten feet of Parks. Parks and Bob Sanna were previously bonded over a prior beating of Popejoy. Popejoy and Parks then scuffled in the street before Parks died.
By staff correspondent in Borger Texas March 26 police say Bill Parks was killed in a Stinnett post office by Popejoy who allegedly faced Parks a month after a whipping. Parks who was free on $10000 bond was said to lead a gang. Popejoy fired at close range after an argument in the lobby. He surrendered to the sheriff shortly after.
Hillsboro March 26 Doris Herring 11 daughter of Luther Herring died Saturday from burns after a can of oil exploded Friday night. The oil was being handled by her brother Weldon. The Herrings live at Lakenon north of Hillsboro.

H Murray, former Texas ranger from Lubbock, is recovering in his Spur hotel room after three severe knife wounds suffered during a confrontation with robbers on a lonely road three miles south of Dickens City Friday night.
C. W. McCoy, 86, painter, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to four years in the penitentiary by a district court jury after an 13 1/2 hour deliberation. He confessed to firing the fatal shots over a dispute involving his wife and Lewis, a Santa Fe railroad employee.
Austin state railroad inspector W. J. Gerron reportedly injured seriously in a train wreck near Borger. His son William received word via Borger chamber of commerce secretary that Gerron was in critical condition. The News could not independently confirm the report by presstime.
