CAPE CANAVERAL FL A P reports Explorer X space laboratory launched aboard a Thor Delta rocket at 10 17 am reaching 24000 mph. The 78 pound satellite climbs toward 125000 miles, aims for 55 hours of flight and 123000 mile apogee, with a planned end of battery life after 123000 miles.
A 16 year old Mississippi high school girl pilot lost her way on a cross country flight from Clarksdale to Little Rock. An Delta Air Lines jet crew guided her to a safe landing in Searcy then Little Rock after she ran low on fuel. She will continue flying to Clarksdale with her mentor accompanying.
Gov. Price Daniel urged Texas lawmakers to end the flagrant waste of state money by retiring the general fund deficit immediately. He warned they face one or more special sessions if action is delayed, calling next week the most crucial of the 57th Legislature as the deficit is about 102 million dollars and expected to drop to 63 million by Aug. 31. House members, with one dissent, must originate tax legislation and were urged to pass a flexible tax bill Monday to raise needed revenue, while Daniel stressed public demand for solving the deficit through taxation.
Dean Clarence Manion of South Bend will headline a Panhandle Texans for Constitutional Government rally in Amarillo at 8 p.m. Thursday at Municipal Auditorium. His talk titled Freedom Begins With You and a luncheon at Crossroads Motel at noon Thursday are open to the public with luncheon tickets priced at $1.50. Proceeds benefit the sponsoring group. ticket sales via local officers and directors.
Washington UPI reports the Federal Space Agency rejected a published claim that Marine Corps Lt. Col. John H. Glenn was chosen for the first Cape Canaveral rocket flight, possibly late next month.
President Kennedy, en route to Laos crisis talks with Prime Minister Macmillan, met Lt. Gen. Thomas Trapnell on his jet to review a personal Laos survey. He plans talks with Gromyko in Washington Monday. The White House cites the serious Laos situation as focus.
Trapnell flown from Laos to Washington late this afternoon. At Andrews Air Force Base General Lyman Lemnitzer arranged a helicopter transfer to the President's plane. Kennedy, Bohlen, Bundy participate in a private conference during the flight to Palm Beach.

In Norristown Pennsylvania fifteen residents in Upper Moreland Township tried to fill 40 potholes themselves after winter damage. They rented trucks with picks and blacktop, assisted by some children, but the action lasted about thirty minutes before state highway officials intervened and ordered them off. A state policeman accompanied by Joseph Poling warned trespass.
Washington announced higher interest rates and a 10 year extension for Series E and H savings bonds issued 1941 to 1949. Bonds bought for 75 dollars in 1941 would be worth 195.04 after 30 years, while newer bonds would reach about 204.60. About 15 billion of the 43 billion outstanding are affected. The move aims to aid investors and reduce refinancing needs for the Treasury.
A U S military transport with eight aboard is missing in Laos two days after leaving Vientiane. The air attache’s C47 was en route to Saigon. gunfire from ground reportedly hit the plane though no injuries were reported. The missing crew includes First Lt. Oscar Branch Weston Jr. and First Lt. Ralph Wayne Magee.
Amarillo College advances its expansion with three new buildings funded by a $980,000 bond. A two story science building worth $384,920 near Jackson will cover 31,000 square feet, a library addition is underway, and a $236,340 gymnasium rises across 24th Avenue on Memorial Park land. Page Richardson Co. is the contractor.
