Mrs. Elizabeth Allen, central figure in Odessa telephone walkout, told Governor Jester's fact finding commission she tried to get along with the workers. The Odessa union demanded her demotion, prompting a walkout that spread to other state sections, while witnesses offered praise or renewed charges.
Testimony recounts a punishment blow when Miss Bowes refused to yield her switchboard position. Miss Preacher, a former operator, testified Mrs. Allen struck Bowes and later defended her action saying she would not dirty her hands. Central office clerk Somerville said Allen performed her duties and sought service for customers.
The Senate Agriculture Committee approved the corn and wheat bonus 7 to 2, a 30 cent per bushel payment targeting farmers who did not receive a prior premium. Cost estimates ranged from 313 million to over one billion dollars, sparking partisan objections about pork barrel politics.

The union planning board will meet this afternoon to decide when notices go out, signaling a strike that could paralyze the industry.
New York reports show U S newspapers had 32 days of newsprint in transit and on hand at end of February, four days less than January. ANPA data notes 258,424 tons used in February, up from 223,244 tons a year earlier.

Boss Neff a veteran trail driver cowhand and rancher died at Epworth Hospital Liberal Kansas after a weeklong illness. Born March 5 1886 in Lewisburg Ohio he came to the Panhandle in 1883 and earned the nickname Boss from his family. He signed as B S Neff and left a lasting pioneer legacy.
In Moscow on March 15 AP reports Foreign Minister Georges Bidault urged an organized emigration of Germans to reduce German population density and war potential. Marshall welcomed the plan, calling it a direct approach to the German problem, while Bevin and Vishinsky clashed over the pace and scope of postwar German reorganization.
Paul Allingham is named general manager of the News-Globe, with Wes Izzard continuing as editor in chief of both The News and The Globe. Grady Camp gains expanded duties as a top executive overseeing finances for multiple companies while Allingham has handled most other departments. Taxpayers now have until Monday midnight to pay income tax as Amarillo deputy collector C I Powell announced. A two day extension from Saturday midnight to Monday midnight was issued by the Dallas office and the Amarillo IRS office will stay open until midnight Monday. No formal extension was granted and penalties for late returns are not expected due to the date.
Senator O Daniel of Texas said he does not oppose the 31 Texas postmaster nominations pending in the Senate among 635 nationwide. he has favorably reviewed Texas picks and found none objectionable. He warned he may oppose Joe B Dooley for federal district judge and Herbert Arnold for North Texas internal revenue collector if advanced. Pending Texas postmasters include Marvin E Ezell of Bovina and Imogene J Benton of Sunray.
Houston date March 15. John Easton manager of Darrington Prison Farm was retained by the Texas Prison Board after a six to three vote. Rev E W Cofers prison chaplain accused Easton of striking and cursing him. Charges of brutality toward prisoners were also brought against the farm manager.
Senator Taft called for an official size-up on whether Russia would wage war if the United States aids Greece and Turkey.
