Marines Open Fire as Viet Cong Hit Saigon Area
Viet Cong attacked American and Vietnamese installations in three separate incidents around Saigon, killing five Vietnamese and wounding US personnel and 33 civilians. A plastic bomb was found outside an apartment building housing Americans and aid workers, with bomb disposal units deactivating it. Marines, deployed to guard Danang, repelled further infiltrations with machine guns and artillery as overnight fighting continued.

Alabama trooper admits shooting at Marion march
Col. Albert J. Lingo testified in federal court that one state trooper fired on Jimmie Lee Jackson during a February 18 march in Marion Alabama. Jackson died eight days later and Lingo said he investigated the shooting but did not name the officer. He also said tear gas smoke bombs and tear gas were used in demonstrations including a Selma march.
