Amtrak trains stalled with 103 140 and 90 passengers in Nebraska Colorado and Denver respectively as helicopters and snowmobiles search for victims. Winds 6 to 70 mph shut rail signals and calls to reroute trains as the blizzard slowly diminishes.
A Herbert Jackson family of Amarillo endured 19 hours trapped in a car near Des Moines New Mexico as a brutal blizzard with 90 mph winds hit the region. State Trooper Greg Spain aided their rescue along a snowbound stretch from Clayton toward Des Moines, aided by snowplows after eight hours to traverse 40 miles. Des Moines remained isolated Friday night with multiple highways opened later.
