A blaze at Panhandle Veterinary Hospital and Hatchery on 304 Van Buren Street killed about 6000 chickens and several dogs. The fire started in a second floor brooder, smoke suffocated around 170 laying hens, and damaged the building with unknown total losses. The facility is run by E. F. Lanham.
Delegates at the Southwestern Aviation Conference adopted resolutions urging federal airport aid and action on airport expansion. Jack Frye of TWA outlined aviation future challenges while Major Al Williams pressed air power value against ships. Zoning Advocated. federal coordination urged for stability rules.
The West Texas Teachers Association concluded its session in Big Spring with a new constitution aligning to the state body, officer elections, and resolutions urging higher per capita funding to 22 dollars, funded transportation equipment, higher education appropriations, and safeguarding the permanent school fund's equity in public lands. Two armed men looted about 300 dollars from the Local Credit Co in the Oliver Eakle Building yesterday afternoon. They taped three staff members, including manager Lloyd Robertson and bookkeeper Mrs. Freda Shidler, and escaped within minutes after the cash drawer was opened. The move, born of army custom, ends Amarillo’s era of the band though the unit will remain in spirit and reassemble under a new local alignment.
