270 Miles of Surfacing on Plains Roads Mapped

State highway plans outline bids on projects exceeding 9 million dollars to open March 16 and 17. Engineer D C Greer notes about 677 miles of roads to be improved including 514 miles of major arteries and a San Jacinto River bridge requiring 5 530 964 pounds of steel. A new US 90 section in Orange County and 270 miles of seal coat on Amarillo area roads are included.

Seal coat projects cover multiple Texas panhandle routes

The plan details seal coating on numerous sections of U.S. and state highways across Hansford, Hutchinson, Gray, Carson, and surrounding counties. Routes include U.S. 83, U.S. 87, U.S. 60, and State 53 51 282 and Farm to Market roads with mileage from Perryton to the New Mexico line and between Amarillo, Hereford, Dumas, Lipscomb, and Shamrock area counties.

Pampa Harvesters Win Class AAAA Title In Overtime

Pampa Harvesters defeated Crozier Tech Dallas 47 to 44 in overtime to secure the Class AAAA state basketball championship at Gregory Gym before about 8 000 fans. A C Black sparked Dallas to force overtime after a six point lead vanished. It was Pampa’s second straight state title and their 57th consecutive win. they had beaten Wichita Falls in the semifinals to reach the final.

Nine Injured In Collision at Third and Hayden

Nine people were injured in a two car crash at Third and Hayden at 12 10 AM. They were taken to Northwest Texas Hospital as police and ambulances worked to load the injured. Seven were believed seriously hurt amid shock or unconsciousness.

Swine Show Awards Highlight Potter County Exhibiters

Twenty 4 H and FFA youths exhibited at the Potter County Junior Swine Show. Grand champion was Jimmy Mathis with a 249 pound Poland China bought by Sears Roebuck for 60 cents a pound. Reserve champion Hampshire sold to Blackburn Brothers for 37 cents. Show judge Tommy Hewlett and superintendents Gene Southall and Herb Davis led the event with Lomax Murphy as auctioneer.
