Pampa Cowboy Wins Big at Amarillo Rodeo Finals

Lee Cockrell of Pampa topped the Amarillo Fat Stock Show Rodeo finals with 1205.66 dollars after winning both calf roping go rounds. Buck Rutherford of Wanata Oklahoma earned 958.37 dollars to place second. The six-session event closed at the Fairgrounds Coliseum before a full house.

About 2,500 Future Homemakers of America delegates from 85 chapters gathered at Amarillo Municipal Auditorium for Area 1. The morning speaker, Kniseley of Amarillo Public Schools, urged focus on seven family life ideals including respect, shared work, and problem solving. Afternoon speaker David Hester of Lubbock discussed Home Life in Sweden using colored slides.

Canyon group pushes to land Cowboy Hall of Fame

The Panhandle-Plains Historical Society executive committee met Canyon Chamber representatives and pledged to pursue placing the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Canyon. A follow up meeting is planned next Saturday to advance securing the Hall, with calls for state wide and regional chamber support and praise for other Texas cities’ efforts. Canyon hosts West Texas State College founded Panhandle-Plains Museum, and Canyon is among 10 sites on the final list for the Hall of Fame. Attendees included Dr. L. F. Sheffy and J. Evetts Haley with others from Canyon and surrounding towns.

City Votes Tuesday on Water Bond Issue for Amarillo

Amarillo property owners will vote on a 6.6 million dollar city bond package for water supply development and airport improvements.
