A deadly day at Le Bourget and Le Mans left at least 14 dead after a plane crash near Paris and a fiery pickup versus car collision at the Le Mans speed event. An American serviceman was among the Paris victims. investigators searched wreckage while rescue teams treated survivors.
About 2,500 youths returning from a motorcycle road race sparked a riot at a beach resort in Laconia New Hampshire. Police say at least 50 were injured, one with a gunshot wound, as two buildings burned and a police cruiser was overturned. National Guard and riot-control units used tear gas to restore order. many arrests reported and bail set at 500 dollars.

Amarillo will host Hydro Corp as headquarters for irrigation gear to be built starting late this month or in July. The firm will occupy a 24,000 square foot shop at 2200 NE 3rd and hire about 20 workers under general manager Russ Allen Jr. Hydro plans turbine pumps, base shafting, and tubing and will pursue future expansion.
The Independence Day celebration at Dick Bivins Stadium will feature a Golden Spread Air Force Band concert at 7 p.m. followed by about one hour of fireworks at 8 45 p.m. The event, free and open to all, is sponsored by Globe News Publishing Co with traffic managed by local police and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
In Cape Girardeau Missouri a three year old girl Betsy Gill vanished last Sunday from near her home. A large search failed to find her despite multiple leads and 100 volunteers aided by police dogs and divers. Residents fear kidnapping and urge return of the child. Suspects include two vehicles with Alabama plates and possible abduction theories persist.
Laura Lee Manser and Robert L. Thomas, both 21, wed in Branford after the bride’s measles forced a small ceremony in their car near the New Haven line. The bride and groom had license issues and remain quarantined in their apartment for six days with immunity among the wedding party.
More than 150 off duty Newark officers and nearby patrolmen marched nonstop at city hall to protest the suspension of a white patrolman who shot a Black motorist. The protest began Friday and tension rose overnight with several arrests including a Bronx woman accused of striking a deputy with an umbrella.
The Arkansas River surged through Garden City Kansas inundating the southern area and Finnup Park. About 300 homes flooded up to two feet as the river crested at 16 feet. One person drowned and another was missing. Lions and tigers were seen on hind legs above water in cages.
State police coordinated debris cleanup as floods from Colorado affect northeastern New Mexico. Ute Park to Mosquero, U.S. 85 and NM 120 closed. Philmont Scout Ranch isolated with 600 scouts airlifted water-supplied. Zoo and farms affected. multiple missing or dead in traffic incidents. Garden City sewage and water systems inundated.
In Gladewater Texas a live bird shot shell found its way into a clown’s sawed off shotgun wounding more than twenty spectators. Ken Arthur Boen 41 of Fort Smith Arkansas claimed unknown how the shell entered his blank ammo. Sheriff filed assault with a prohibited weapon charge and a $2500 bond posted by the rodeo association.
