Pursuit of Tan Sedan in Weyerhaeuser Kidnapping

In northeastern Oregon deputy sheriffs chase a tan sedan at high speed as part of the search for nine year old George Weyerhaeuser abductors. Governor Nice Seeks Parley on NRA Codes

H A Gardner Hurt In Wreck On Oklahoma Trip

Harry A Gardner manager of Walter Irwin Inc was injured in a highway accident while driving with his daughter and granddaughter from Amarillo toward Oklahoma City. Their car was side swiped on a bridge near Sayre Oklahoma by a large truck. Gardner sustained facial cuts a deep knee gash and body bruises. He was taken to Tisdale Hospital Elk City Oklahoma and was expected to leave Monday.

Sheriff Cato Cleared In Post Narcotics Slaying Case

A federal court jury acquitted Sheriff W F Cato and three Garza County men of murder in the February 7 narcotics agent killing at Post. Dr L W Kitchen and Dr W A Hartman were freed with Hartman on court instructions. Kitchen had pleaded guilty to narcotics violations. Cato still faces conspiracy and civil suit charges.

Barney Keen Wins Amarillo Stake Before 6000 Tri-State Turf Fans

Barney Keen, an eight year old gelding ridden by Goddard, won the Amarillo Stake before an audience exceeding 6,000 at the Tri-State racing meet. The horse defeated Shawean on a fast track as Phalamo and Chu Chu also ran strong, with Soothing and Showcase contending. Time was 1 444-5 for the mile and 70 yards, just five seconds off the American record. Kidnapped Boy Recalls Abduction Details in Tacoma

George Weyerhaeuser, seven days held for a 200000 ransom, described the moment a tan sedan pulled him from the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club path. He recalled a man, Alvin, forcing him into the car, covering him with a blanket, and signing the envelope and ransom notes under threat. He named two cars, a tan sedan and a gray Buick, as part of the escape.

Officer Adjudged Guilty of Murder in Rio Grande City

Fulalio Elizondo Starr County deputy sheriff was convicted of murdering Davis Gomez in a Memorial Day shooting in Rio Grande City. The jury sentenced him to 25 years in the penitentiary after a trial that surprised courtroom staff. the state did not seek the death penalty.

Bridge dislodged in Kirkland well near Childress

A bridge in tubing at 5 270 feet of the Alma Oil Company No 1 low test was dislodged today under 1800 pounds pressure, releasing about 25 barrels of oil. It was believed a floating bridge blocked the hole and swabbing would be used to loosen the obstruction. Trading in the field picked up after the flow.
