The Big Four reached a quick-starting and long-range accord at Geneva to calm fears of another German holocaust and ease East West tensions. An Aug 29 UN Disarmament Subcommittee meeting will review proposals as foreign ministers will hold October talks on reuniting Germany and a Europe security plan.

President Eisenhower's plane Columbine III refueled at Prestwick, Scotland, then continued to Washington after the Geneva summit. Secretary Dulles and other delegates followed in a second Constellation, taking off four minutes later. A planned second refueling in Stephensville, Maryland, was expected before arrival in Washington between 8 and 9 a.m. EST.
Abilene edged Amarillo 5-4 while Plainview defeated Albuquerque 7-5. Clovis beat Lubbock 6-4. El Paso postponed at Pampa due to rain. In the National League Milwaukee beat Brooklyn 11-6 and New York defeated Cincinnati 2-0, while Philadelphia won 7-2 over St. Louis and Pittsburgh topped Chicago 10-2. In the American League Boston won 9-7 over Chicago. Cleveland beat Baltimore 3-2. Detroit defeated Washington 10-4 in a rain-delayed second game. Kansas City edged New York 8-7 in 1 inning.
Hillevi Rombin a 21 year old Swede from Uppsala won the Miss Universe title in Long Beach becoming Scandinavia second winner in four years. She will preside over tonight coronation ball and starts a movie career in The Benny Goodman Story. Her fiancé Lt Nils Benkert 26 described her as more than a beauty queen.
A western Amarillo thundershower dropped 1 to 2 inches of moisture around 4 p.m. yesterday while central areas saw lighter rain. Gauges varied from 0.1 to 1.5 inches with heavier totals toward the city’s western edge. Channing reported 1.10 inches. Scattered showers expected today with highs near 90.
The Canadien tug Helena capsized in the Calumet River near 102nd Street Chicago while taking on coal. At least one crewman died and two others were missing and believed drowned. Sixteen aboard survived, with divers recovering Victor Martin of Montreal from the submerged boiler room.
City health officials said dates and schedules for the second Salk vaccine inoculations will be announced tomorrow. Only children who received the first shot in the April free school program are eligible and the shot will be given on a voluntary basis. Officials noted the series might begin midweek.
Cordell Hull former secretary of state and father of the United Nations died at 9 a.m. in U S Naval Hospital Bethesda Md at age 83 after a stroke. He helped found the United Nations and won the 1945 Nobel Prize. Funeral will be at Washington National Cathedral with Mrs Hull interred. Hull shaped bipartisan foreign policy and promoted reciprocal trade and good neighbor diplomacy.
Dr B E Masters, first president of Amarillo College, named temporary chairman of a Kilgore Citizens Council pledged to assist in maintaining segregation. More than 300 members joined Friday and the group hopes to reach 1,500. Kilgore population about 10,000.
Retired Maj. Gen. Byron E. Gates is charged by the Air Force with accepting money for preferential treatment to insurance companies while commander at Chanute Air Force Base. The case covers 1953 to 1955 with alleged $7,000 paid by an insurer. An investigation for possible court martial is under way.
