Youth Is Charged in Assault in Amarillo
Manuel Martinez, an 18 year old Mexican youth, was charged with assault to rape after allegedly attacking a 68 year old Amarillo woman as she slept in her bed. He was arraigned with a $5,000 bond, and police said he was found hiding near the home minutes after the report. The injured woman, who has lived in Amarillo 32 years, was treated for facial injuries and released from Northwest Texas Hospital. Two visiting children were present during the attack and alerted Mr. and Mrs. James J. Brown, who then called police.
