Northward harvest push and a record grain carryover clog marketing as embargoes restrict receipts at Kansas City and St. Louis terminals. Government data show a potential 6.7 billion bushels of grain in storage, with new terminals easing but not solving congestion.
Washington reports forecasted surge in airplane output from October with defense officials saying many young American pilots will ferry combat aircraft to Britain. A ragged orphan kitten becomes a beloved pet when Mrs. R. B. Peterson of 833 Kentucky Street cleans and rehomes the flea bitten cat. The kitten, once scrawny and unattractive, is bathed and bluesed before being adopted by a woman who visits with a car ride to its new home.
Field Marshal Baron Carl Gustaf Mannerheim received the 163rd German division led by Lieutenant General Engelbrecht on the northern front in an official order of the day. The ceremony marks a formal welcome amid ongoing operations and coordination between Finnish and German forces.
New York July 12 The United States assures Portugal it will not move into the Azores or Cape Verde Islands. Portuguese minister Joao A Dibianchi, awaiting his daughter's clipper from Bermuda, says we have full confidence in the US government. Four contingents of Portuguese troops have been sent to the Azores in three months, two this week. The note follows Roosevelt's May fireside mention of the Azores as a possible German foothold.
