Hobbs New Mexico youth Kenny Kearney won the All Around Youth trophy at the AQHA Youth Show opening the second day of the Amarillo Stock Show. He tied Marilyn Norris of Dallas at 16 points but earned the trophy for more event placements. Local youths from Amarillo and surrounding areas also posted wins in halter, barrel racing, pole bending, and western pleasure as part of the Class A event with 265 entries.

Five charged in Sid and Van Buren riot incident
About 12:15 a.m. at Sid and Van Buren a fight drew a large crowd hindering deputies from arresting participants. Potter County deputies Isiah Garrett and Albert Smith called for help and 20 units responded as cases against James Earl Albert and Johnny Lee Albert proceeded with fines and bonds set.

City Employees Vote For Hike In Salary

Hijacker seizes KAL jet, crashes on Korean coast
A 65 passenger KAL flight was hijacked by 22 year old Kim Sang tae who blew open the cockpit with a grenade and forced a landing on a sandy beach near the truce line. He and the pilot died in the final explosion. At least 12 injured. Security agent Choi Chon il shot the hijacker four times.
