Texas to finance Democratic convention in Houston
Texas will finance the Democratic national convention in Houston on June 26. R. S. Sterling, chair of the finance committee, says statewide support will be mobilized to raise about 300000 for the gathering. A 73 member finance panel was named, including Jesse H. Jones and T. P. Lee. The committee plans a vigorous campaign beginning Monday to fund the event.

Tragic Fire Claims Groom Sisters In Telephony Building
Miss Mertie Stephenson and her invalid sister Bertha were trapped when a dress treated with gasoline ignited in the Groom Texas telephone exchange. Flames consumed the wooden building, Ray Griffin rescued both women, Mertie died at St Anthony's Hospital and Bertha survived. The sisters lived in the exchange building.
