Scrubbing brushing clipping and combing dominate the Tri State Fairgrounds as exhibitors prepare more than 1000 head of livestock for the 1964 Amarillo Fat Stock Show opening today. Activities today will include shipments judging and parades at the four day event.
Weather across Amarillo and Northwest Texas favors cooler trends with partly cloudy skies and wind. The Livestock Show features lamb judging, steer and heifer competitions, and barrel racing with hundreds of entries and a full Monday schedule in the Commercial Exhibits Building.

In South Vietnam a Vietnamese Ranger unit fought its way out of a Communist assault near the Mekong Delta. The U S 7th Fleet flagship Providence docked in Saigon as two Americans and a British observer were missing after a UH-1 helicopter crash amid an extended engagement. A UH-1A helicopter was destroyed with four U S crewmen and a Vietnamese observer. Casualties rose as government forces pursued Red training camps near Kien Hoa Province with a dozen wounded evacuated.
