Blue Scout I rockets to low earth orbit from Cape Canaveral
The Blue Scout I, the largest solid-fuel rocket flown from Cape Canaveral, launched a 392-pound package into the inner Van Allen belt. All eight experiments aboard transmitted data as the 72-foot craft reached space and discharged a 90-pound capsule that parachuted into the Atlantic near Antigua. The Coastal Crusader located the capsule with a JC-04 plane and directed recovery.
