Amarillo groups led by 25 organizations back county offer to buy the old post office for a library as it is vacated tomorrow. The Treasury bids are seen as not equal to market value with Waco and Dallas posts also up for sale.
Thomas J. Mooney, long jailed as a labor symbol, is pardoned by California Governor Culbert L. Olson and vows to dedicate his life to building a new and better social order. The 56 year old pledged to work for the common good and urged Americans to avoid bloodshed and revolution. Mooney also aims to win clemency for Warren K. Billings and attacked fascist reactionism while Olson collapsed from nervous exhaustion at a Sacramento barbecue crowd.
Postmaster W. D. DeGrassi says tomorrow morning will be a double box day for Amarillo boxholders. Mail in old boxes today stays there until tomorrow morning while the post office moves to the new building. Mail arriving tomorrow will be sorted at the new office.
Dr. W H Flamm remains critically ill at Northwest Texas Hospital after a light pneumonia flare and a slight heart ailment. He has been under oxygen with gall bladder complications noted. Harold Flamm arrived from Springfield and brother Dr Kenneth Flamm came by chartered plane from San Antonio to be at his bedside.
The Amarillo Preventorium opens its new $30,000 red brick facility at 10 AM offering tours until 10 PM. The 44 bed two ward structure adds sun porches, isolation wards, living room, kitchen and dining areas. About 30 patients will move in next week with 75 children on a waiting list.
