Air Force trainer and student die in Texas crash near Muleshoe

A T 33 trainer from Reese Air Force Base crashes near Muleshoe killing Capt. Thomas P. Sexton 33 of Lubbock and the West German student pilot. The student’s name will be released Monday. No cause yet. Witnesses saw the plane explode after a nose first impact in pasture near the Paul Brothers Ranch. Sexton survived by his wife Patricia and two daughters.

Clay and Rusk discuss Berlin tensions and command

General Lucius D. Clay told Secretary of State Dean Rusk that East West talks on Berlin tend to raise tensions but dismissed any looming emergency. Clay, Kennedy’s envoy in West Berlin, will report to the President Sunday and said Washington must back a commander in West Berlin with authority to act in future crises even without explicit orders.

Man Burned in Explosion Near Dumas

Leo Getman, 33, of 1017 Durrett, severely burned as diesel oil exploded while thawing frozen sand at Getman and Sons gravel pit about 20 miles northeast of Dumas. He is listed in critical condition at Moore County Memorial Hospital. cousins Donald and Earl Getman, 31 and 29, suffered minor hand burns.
