A man who escaped from Potter County Detention Center in October was captured Friday night at his campsite in the Canadian River bottoms about five miles west of U.S. Highway 287. Larry Allen Blackburn Jr., 32, was nabbed by deputies as he rested inside his sleeping bag at about 10:30 p.m. He had escaped Oct. 19 from the Potter County Detention Center while in the yard for recreation and faces a third degree felony charge of felony escape. He is held in administrative segregation as bond is expected to be set this week. The investigation notes possible lines of travel and care for the escapee, with deputies continuing searches and prior efforts involving dogs, horses, and air support.
The B-acreage in the West Panhandle, from Channing to Fritch, under Pioneer and Energas contracts, shaped Amarillo’s gas supply. The 1920s B-contract tied Energas to Pioneer, fixing half the gas at a fixed rate of 2.65 per mcf while the rest moved with market prices, yielding concerns about price stability and future supply for Amarillo.
