A tragic accident in Amarillo leaves a baby dead after a fall through a glass gap. The incident occurred during winter weather as Panhandle residents endure a heavy wet snow cover. Local authorities investigate circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Texas college student Robert L. Williams was charged with murder in Port Arthur after the death of 16 year old Elizabeth Johnson. Williams says a love triangle and an intended self injury with a .22 pistol led to the fatal shooting in a car near the First Methodist Church. The case centers on his claim that he found her dead after returning from the church and that the gun was in the car seat.
Amarillo voters will decide a proposed annexation extending the city limits to include city section park Tri State Fairgrounds and two smaller areas. Polls open at 8 am and close at 7 pm with eight precincts plus a council chamber booth for qualified taxpayers. The measure would bring the Southwestern Public Service plant into city limits and would not burden the city.
In White Deer, ranges rose as high as four inches in certain sections, indicating localized increases. The report notes uneven snowfall and higher accumulations in select areas, affecting road conditions and visibility.

Betty Eloise Johnson 18 months old died from a head wound in Amarillo after a chair fall while her mother prepared supper. Cause of death was loss of blood. Burial plans and funeral arrangements are pending with Griggs Funeral Home.

Older American Legion members were chosen to form the police reserve with a signed commission letter from Colonel Thompson.

Legal steps progress for extraditing Jack Walker and Dick Fitzgerald to New Mexico. Amarillo police arrested Walker after a siege in Glenwood addition, while Fitzgerald was jailed in Lubbock on a bank robbery charge from Logan. Portales DA J C Compton filed extradition documents with M M Scott.
The Federal Farm Board announced S. T. Britt of Shamrock and Ralph H. Harris of San Angelo named as directors of the Federal Land Bank of Houston. Britt serves a three year term from January 1, Harris’s term ends December 31, 1931.

In Taylor on December 27, the bodies of Rudolph 25 and Fritz 26 were buried beside their mother, all poisoned after she and the two sons suffered. The mother, 61, planned a Christmas death for all three after telling a physician and friends that she wished to end their suffering. Adolph, the other son, found them dying on Christmas Day.
D J Greer 71 pioneer merchant of Amarillo died Saturday night at his home 2112 Polk Street after several months illness. He came to Amarillo in 1907 from Greenback Tennessee where he had 24 years in mercantile business. Survived by wife Rena and six children Horace Hugh Harold Ancil Smith Joe Goddard Olden Byrd. Body in care of Blackburn funeral home pending arrangements.

Livingston December 27 Joe Zimmerman a 49 year old tenant farmer was charged with murder over a dynamite blast that killed M T Nettles in his kitchen stove. Nettles died three days after the blast as Zimmerman who rented Nettles farm faced a likely hearing early next week. Zimmermans wife had moved into the Nettles home with their daughter and son in law Felix Cleveland also living there.
The Associated Press reports a crowd at the Eaglea party in Burlington, Iowa, turned chaotic when a fire broke out of unknown origin during Harvey Jaeger’s Santa appearance. Dozens were injured, some seriously, as attendees fled the venue amid flames and smoke.
Steel mills in the Youngstown district will recall 2,000 workers next week. The biggest rise is in sheet mills as they start producing material for the automobile industry. Plants in Warren Niles and Youngstown are affected.
Four men held up the Rising Sun and Wyoming Avenues Olney Bank and Trust today and robbed about 25000. Five patrons and five employees were forced to line up while cash was taken from the drawers. The robbers missed roughly 100000 in the vault.
