First Snow Hits Eastern New Mexico Clovis Area
Snow and high winds lashed eastern New Mexico and the Northwestern Panhandle. Roads near Dalhart Strattford Vaughn and Vaughn were blocked with drifting snow, with up to 18 inch drifts north of Clayton New Mexico. Several hundred motorists stranded briefly, crews kept tracks open. A death in Santa Fe linked to the storm.

Missionary donkey skipper saved after gruelling sea ordeal
Jennie Sue the mission donkey captained a 36 foot cruiser for almost a day and a half as two men and a dog fled rough seas off Miami. The boat broke down with mission supplies for South Andros Island and only Jennie survived the perilous voyage and rescue. The Rev. Donald Powell noted the cargo worth about 4000 dollars was lost save for Jennie who reached Port Everglades onboard the rescued SP II.

Police Quell Prison Riot in Columbus Workhouse
Police restored order at the Columbus workhouse before 4 p.m. Saturday after inmates rioted for about an hour. One guard was seriously injured and several guards were held briefly as hostages before being freed. Inmates burned mattresses sending smoke from windows. firefighters helped douse flames and police evacuate cellblocks as the cause remained undetermined. The injured guard was taken to Grant Hospital.
