The Kerrville band and pep squad lead Fourth Avenue in a Texas High School Grid Classic parade while Kerrville hosts two dozen visiting sports writers in the press box. The photo features Kerrville reserves and lists several editors from Dallas, Fort Worth, San Angelo, and other papers.
Amarillo High School wins the Texas high school football championship for the third straight year, defeating Kerrville 64 19 at Butler Field in front of 17009 fans. Notable Kerrville stars McCaleb Holbrook and Chambliss battled hard but Amarillo’s smarter play and limited Antler punting sealed the outcome.
Chicago dispatch notes Christmas and the Fourth of July rival in fatalities with near 500 total deaths as 23 lives were lost on Texas highways during holiday travel.
