Turnout Heavy At Jobs Fair
Amarillo College gym hosted Texas First job fair drawing 1 050 seekers from across the region and the Pacific Northwest. About 1 000 plus career positions were offered by 75 employers with attendees from Amarillo and nearby cities. Employers planned follow up in June while some filled long open posts such as a Mead's Foods job. Air Force recruiters attended, signaling broad regional interest.

ENMU football star killed in Portales shooting
Terry Sweet 22, a four year ENMU football letterman, was shot at point blank range before students near a Portales apartment complex. Classmates Robert D. Stewart 22 and Wilbur W. Sells 18 were charged with murder and accessory to murder respectively and held without bond. Stewart surrendered to ENMU Security and was denied bond by Roosevelt County Magistrate Jessie Porter.

An Amarillo shoe store worker told police a robber dressed as a jogger and wearing a ski mask held him up at gunpoint last night. Robert Fuentes said the bandit demanded the bank bag with receipts during a deposit at Tascosa National Bank’s night depository. He handed over funds and keys, then dashed east, injuring no one.
