Golden Gloves Tournament Features Double Divisions

The News-Globe presents a two-division Golden Gloves event from January 26 to 28 at the USO Auditorium. A service men division joins the regular amateur meet with Amarillo Field and Dalhart Air Base sending large teams. Regular division opens to boxers 16 and up as a novice class is eliminated.

Eskimo Open Prizes To Go To Odd Men

The Third Eskimo Open will be held January First at Sunset Golf Course with an $1 entry fee all funds returned to War Stamps prizes. Prizes go to first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh place in an 18 hole medal format. Amateurs and pros compete in separate brackets.

Sports Revival Forecast By Southwest Conference

Dallas December forecast at the Southwest Conference faculty committee meeting predicts growth in the sports program for the coming year. leaders expect spring schedules to lift morale after a low point, noting trimmed coaching staffs and renewed recruitment of high school stars and veterans returning from service. Baylor may rejoin next fall as manpower improves after last season.

Officials Set Dec Meetings For Southwest Basketball Branch

SAN ANTONIO in South Texas on December 19 a meeting of the Southern Branch of the Southwest Basketball Officials Association will review rules and mechanics of officiating Secretary Mike Williamson announced. The Northern Branch schedules a December 12 meeting in Dallas for members.

Tickets Due Wednesday for Golden Gloves Shows

The first batch of 750 reserved seats for next month's Golden Gloves boxing show goes on sale Wednesday morning at The News-Globe office. Tickets cost $1.65 per night or $4.95 for all three nights, tax included. Out-of-town orders go to Mrs Elma Carlin, care of The News-Globe.

Charley Keller, star outfielder of the New York Yankees, was given a six month military deferment while working for the Everedy Company in Frederick Maryland. Officials warn he could be reclassified 1 A if he leaves his war job, despite the deferment. Hunters Report Few Game Law Violations in Valley

Rio Grande Valley hunters have largely obeyed game laws this season according to State Game Warden Charles G. Jones of Weslaco. Since September the number of infractions has been low with eight violations charged during the duck season and none so far in the deer or quail seasons. two cases in Willacy County resulted in a $100 fine plus costs.

Canyon Named Center In New League Setup

Texas schools adopt a war time reorganization for interscholastic league play. Conference and area meets replace county and district meets to pair schools by size in eight regions. Regions list centers include Center Canyon Abilene Dallas Longview Houston San Marcos Kingsville El Paso with AA A and B divisions and scheduled weekends from March to May. Seven percent of tank and large artillery workers are women.

Flowers Accepts East West Bid For Shrine Game

SAN FRANCISCO December 11 Coaches and a three man selection committee sent tele graphic invitations to college stars from the Mississippi area to form a West squad for the Shrine charity football game on New Year’s Day. Four players have accepted including Bob Stevens Clyde Flowers Herman Widenmeyer and Art McCaffray. A note recalls the 231 mile an hour wind gust atop Mount Washington in 1934 as the record U S wind.
