Christmas Parade Brightens Amarillo Cold Saturday
Shoppers from across the Golden Spread joined Amarillo for a 10 a.m. Christmas parade on Polk Street. Jaycees and merchants sponsored the event with about a score of bands and floats. Prizes went to the special services float from Amarillo Air Force Base first, Polk Street Methodist Church second, and St. Paul Methodist Church third. Band honors went to Amarillo High School first, Elizabeth Nix son Junior High second, and Horace Mann Junior High third. Trophy presentations followed at the Jaycees Wednesday noon meeting. Miss Amarillo 1956 Myrna McDaniel led the procession atop a yellow convertible, with the Marine Corps Reserve Color Guard and Palo Duro Band in tow. Continued on Page 2.

New York Opens National Automobile Show at Coliseum
The National Automobile Show began in New York's Coliseum with a noon ribbon cutting and a fanfare of oversized auto horns. Exhibits cover three floors and feature 125 passenger cars and 66 trucks, including production models and dream cars like Cadillac Directeur and Buick DuBarry Roadmaster.

Father battles lioness to save son during wild act
Elwood Tranholm of Wilmington attempted to pry open a large African lioness with his bare hands after it escaped its cage at a Breitfeller Sales auto lot in Garden Grove. The 11-year-old son Erian was mauled in the knee and head as the beast roamed Brookhurst Ave. Police and bystanders watched in fear. The boy was rushed to Orange County Hospital for emergency surgery. Doctors reported his condition as fair.

Pearl Choate In Jail Again
HOUSTON Dec 8 A 300 pound nurse Pearl Choate alias Elizabeth Pearl Langston 49 held on a charge of taking 2000 from a 57 year old invalid. Indicted in Houston for the theft from Mrs Lulu M Lowery. The invalid woman's daughter says 6000 in bank and stocks were drained and an attempted $4500 loan on property made. Choate held as a conditional parole violator and jailed in Harris County after being arrested in Monahans. She admits the money was spent jointly to set up an ice cream stand in Kermit with Lowery.

Real Estate Pioneer Tom Bruner Dies in Amarillo
Amarillo pioneer real estate developer Tom Bruner died at home Friday night at 1216 Fannin. In failing health since May 1955, he came to Amarillo in 1906 and helped shape the local market. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel with Dr. Carl Bates and Rev. Bill Newsome officiating. interment at Llano Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Rebecca, brother Dr. J. W. Bruner of Dallas, and sisters Mrs. Verna Thomas and Mrs. Effie Glover of Hawesville Ky. Born December 29, 1883 in Hancock County Kentucky, Bruner grew up an orphan after his parents died early.
