Abilene reports a dramatic late drive as Wes Izzard leads a desperate surge for victory. The Sandstorm from the Panhandle unsettled Fagletown but could not derail the late rally.
Abilene and Cleburne high schools will face off in the state semi final Friday after Abilene defeated Amarillo 26 to 21 in bi district play. The Eagles dominated with Smith and Phelps scoring through the line while Sandies led by Walker and Travis mounted late aerials that fell short.
Sunday fair and warmer weather expected for Amarillo and nearby areas with a high pressure system centered over Arkansas. Across West Texas and the Plains conditions remain mostly fair as pressures ease, bringing slight increases in temperature tonight and Sunday.

Amarillo reports a new government helium plant eight miles west of the city will recover helium from natural gas by cooling to 300 degrees below zero. The process, called the coldest spot in the world, will liquefy other gases, allowing helium to be drawn off and shipped in tank cars.
Borger Texas December 8 bondsmen for Charlie Hale who faces trial December 17 in the slaying of Ray Martin withdrew their bonds. Sheriff Joe Owensby said Hale will not be surrendered to Colorado officers before his trial for Martin's death.

Commander Richard E. Byrd's Antarctic expedition expects to sight the ice barrier today. A message to Sergt. K. G. Wilson from Bolling Field says the Eleanor Bolling is 896 miles southeast of New Zealand this morning and moving into thick fog.
Gasoline fumes escaped an open hatch aboard the vessel Gulf Tetining at Port Arthur docks causing a blast. Three crewmen died Fiander Wakasech and Eichler were on duty. four others were injured but not seriously. Foamite extinguished the fire and loading lines were closed. The incident mirrors a 3 year old Gulf of Venezuela explosion at the same dock with higher casualties.
Dwight Morrow United States ambassador to Mexico, who passed through St Louis on his way home to Englewood New Jersey, said he would be willing to return as ambassador after March 4 if reappointed. He had no understanding with President Hoover on the point.
