Bandits Hold Couple During Two State Search

Three armed men robbed a Close City Texas store early Sunday and held Olen Long, his wife and two children, and a kidnapped partner for 19 hours at Grassland, then fled in a car. A two state hunt extended across West Texas and eastern New Mexico as officers pursued the robbers and a stolen vehicle.

Counterfeit Ring Nabbed in Chicago by Secret Service

The US Secret Service arrested Joseph Moschiano and four accomplices, breaking up a gang that printed about $600,000 in fake currency since July. The ring operated mainly in Illinois Wisconsin and Indiana. Informant George Kanakas led to the arrests after Des Plaines investigators traced a suspicious $10 bill and car license. About $425,000 in counterfeit notes were recovered with some destroyed for poor quality.

Oil firms hike crude prices nationwide in price parade

Texas Oklahoma and Pennsylvania oil firms joined a half dollar per barrel jump sparked by Sun Oil and Magnolia and Sinclair. Sun Pipeline and other companies took wells in Gladewater while Premier and Baird raised East Texas crude to 2.75 and 2.65 for west central oil retroactive to December 1. Breaks include Phillips in Oklahoma and Pennsylvania firms raising to $5 per barrel the highest since 1920 21.

Suspect Slain by Ranger in Pushmataha County Jail

Steven M. Carter, arrested earlier today for shooting two peace officers, was shot and killed by game ranger Atwood Thompson during a jail search in the Pushmataha County jail. Carter drew a 32 caliber pistol, previously taken from Choctaw County Sheriff R. L. Page, and Thompson fired three shots hitting Carter in the head and body. The weapon had been taken from Carter during a prior arrest near Valliant.

Four Die in Private Plane Crash Near Chickasha

A four passenger private plane crashed and burned on the George Thomas farm three miles west of Chickasha Oklahoma killing two men and two women. The owner Dr Roy Emanuel of Chickasha and Everett Wilcox a former music teacher from Wewoka were among the deceased. The craft was on a return flight from Oklahoma City.

Blood donor saves Amarillo woman via rare type transfusion

An Amarillo woman Mrs. Howard Blackmon of 205 Cleveland received a blood transfusion at St. Anthony's Hospital after Borger carpenter G. Mahler donated type A RH negative blood. Mahler and his wife drove to Amarillo, returned for the 9 o'clock transfusion, and the patient rested comfortably afterward. The Mahlers later visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. N. M. Carter and joined the Christmas parade in Amarillo.

Twenty eight children rescued from flaming Minneapolis bus

A Sunday school party with 28 children and their escort Wanda Schickling were burned when a bus caught fire after a collision in South Minneapolis. Passersby, residents, and a patrolman rescued them by forcing windows. Wanda Schickling and Gordon Peterson, age 3, were admitted to General Hospital.
