Partridge Area Plans Revealed In Panhandle Visit

Eltinge Warner publisher of Field & Stream will select Hungarian partridge areas in the Panhandle next week. He arrives in Amarillo Tuesday afternoon and will speak at a hotel gathering with motion pictures about the conservation project. Potential release zones include west of Friona and west of McLean, with Cat Creek south of Canadian in Hemphill County. The open field bird favors cultivated plains and less brush and water. Four sound hunting films will be shown: Quail Quest Sky Game On The Wing Bird Dogs The Retrieving Cheetah.

FSA Appeals Gasoline Ration for Cotton Labor

The Farm Security Administration will appeal its gasoline ration request to state director Mark McGee in Amarillo on Monday. Potter County War Price and Rationing Board denied the six car request, says five cars appealed, to recruit migrant farm labor for long staple cotton near Roswell Carlsbad Las Cruces El Paso Pecos.

Pearl Harbor Day Plans Complete for Monday

Amarillo marks the first anniversary of Pearl Harbor with an 11 25 a m observance at Third and Polk. The program features air raid drill rehearsal, WAACs path, a War Bond auction, concerts, displays, and a prayer pause, with clubs selling bonds and stamps at Sixth and Polk and several venues hosting activities.

Jack Anderson Wins Contest

In Amarillo the first prize of a $25 war bond went to Jack Anderson of 4232 West Fourteenth Avenue. Second prize $5 in war stamps was won by Helen McCabe of 1216 South Fillmore. Third prize $2.50 in war stamps went to Mrs. W. D. Kirkpatrick of Rt. 1 White Deer.

Hard freeze prevailed Sunday across Amarillo and vicinity with continued cold daytime conditions. West Texas saw snow flurries in the Panhandle and intermittent rain elsewhere, with cool spells continuing in the Panhandle and El Paso area. Temperature readings noted yesterday include a high of 41 or 42 and a low of 27, with sunrise at 6 41 a m and sunset at 6 35 p m.
