Two gunmen kill youth at Shamrock chase

More than 100 law officers surrounded a pasture near Shamrock waiting for daybreak to trap two armed killers who had killed Victor Lee Stephens, 19, and wounded two officers during a running gun battle from Texola Oklahoma to the J B Stephens Ranch north of Route 66. An Air Force plane from Yinker AFB was to drop flares at 2 a.m. as authorities sought the pair.

Victor Lee Stephens joined a pursuit of two fugitives in Shamrock Texas when he was killed. Sheriff John Rainey and Deputy Luke Henley faced gunfire as the pair were tracked in a brush area. Potter County chapter of the American Red Cross asks Amarillo for 4000 dollars as part of a 5 million dollar relief fund for Hungarian refugees.
