Fatal car overturns kill Boswells near Groom Texas

Mr and Mrs Cole Boswell of Turkey were fatally injured when their car overturned several times on Farm Road 294 near Lark between Groom and Panhandle. Boswell 61 died at hospital after the wreck and his wife 61 died en route. Survived by two daughters and several grandchildren.

Shackleton Research Ship Struck Ice Off Antarctica

The British 1100 ton Shackleton struck an iceberg about 400 miles north of Antarctica, taking on water but remaining seaworthy. With 60 aboard to relieve two years of Antarctic scientists, the vessel aimed for South Georgia after attempting to beach at Laurie Island. Leaks were reported under control as weather eased and rescue plans continued.

Discovery of Blighs Bounty shipwreck near Pitcairn Island

National Geographic reports the finding of the Bounty wreck about 30 feet down in Bounty Bay. Luis Marden led a six week search aided by Pitcairners Tom Christian and Len Brown, identifying hull fittings an oarlock and copper fragments along the keel.

Indonesian President Survives Grenade Attack in Jakarta

President Sukarno escaped unharmed after four grenades were thrown at his car as he left a Jakarta elementary school. Amarillo police sought leads after a crude homemade bomb shattered a front window at 4815 West 9th, injuring no one as Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson watched TV. Patrolman Keeney found friction tape fragments. the blast likely came from a speeding car, with no threats or witness vehicle activity evident.

Amarillo Christmas Parade Set for December 7

Amarillo will stage a Christmas parade on Polk Street at 10 30 a m Saturday December 7 sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the retail merchants committee. Nine floats and seven bands already signed up with a deadline of Monday at 5 p m to enter. The theme A Childs Storybook allows religious or other Christmas floats. Floats may be entered by individuals organizations churches schools or businesses. Trophies will be awarded for best elementary and secondary school floats and best general float. Funds exist to aid float construction with extra trucks lined up. Jaycee parade chairman Dick Brooks urges interested entrants to contact the Jaycee Office in the Amarillo Building.

Skeleton find deepens Plainfield killing case

Plainfield Wisconsin November 30 officers from three counties confronted Edward Gein after a new skeleton unearthed in a garbage pit raised fears of further slayings. Officials say a second body found yesterday by Portage County Sheriff Wanserskd may match a money flashing stranger linked to an Adams County disappearance. Authorities in Waushara reported satisfaction with Gein's confession of two killings while noting he claimed some body parts came from graves dug after deaths.

Wisconsin killer Gein linked to graves and grisly remains

Nine graves are named by Gein though officials say more bodies may be involved in the Worden case. He was arrested after Mrs. Bernice Worden was found murdered in his woodshed and has been examined to determine his fitness for trial. He also confessed to killing Mrs. Mary Hogan in 1954. The district attorney opened two graves from Gein’s list for inquest.

Skeleton found in trench near Gein farm

Deputies followed tips to a weed grown farmstead near Plainfield and uncovered a near complete skeleton in a 40 foot trench. The skull bore a gold tooth linking the remains to a man described to authorities as Ray Burgess who hunted with Victor Travis on November 1 1952.
