Paul Mantz won the Bendix Trophy in Cleveland flying a P-51 Mustang at an average 460.423 mph completing 2050 miles in 4 hours 26 minutes 57 seconds. Joe De Bona finished second, Edmund Lunken third, and Jacqueline Cochran’s plane placed fourth with winnings donated to air forces aid. Jane Page Hlavacek was the first woman finisher. Weather led to cancellations of most jets and a deluge forced a one-day delay.

Nurse heard no outcry. victim examined by family physician with definite signs of mistreatment. The girl, in a white ruffled dress, was last seen talking to a man on the hospital sun porch before being released to go home near Ama Fillo.
