Perfect Skies Boost Globe News Model Airplane Contest

Calm winds at Tradewind Airport helped the second annual Globe News Model Airplane Contest unfold with dozens of planes on display. In a dramatic team race Judd Kennedy of the Gold Dusters and Ken Jennings both lost their planes in one lap. Kennedy’s crashed beyond repair while Jennings managed to keep his racer aloft before wing failure.

Charges filed against retired Amarillo teacher over ballot inspection

Yarborough supporters filed criminal charges yesterday against Mrs. E L Hunter a retired Amarillo school teacher alleging unlawful examination of a ballot while serving as an election clerk at Precinct 20 900 North Pierce Amarillo Potter County Texas The complaint named A B Wilson Gene George and Lonnie Smith as filers The charge carries one to two years imprisonment and Hunter was arrested then released on her own recognizance awaiting arraignment Monday morning

Eisenhower Signs Farm Bill and Debt Increase

President Eisenhower signed a major farm bill hailed as a victory for Americans promising stable prices and farmer income plus a temporary six billion dollar increase in the national debt ceiling. He argued the flexible price supports would move agriculture toward balanced production and greater farmer freedom while warning the debt hike may prove inadequate. Shivers Wins Texas Governor Nomination After Scrappy Race

Ralph Yarborough conceded early Sunday as Allan Shivers secured the Democratic gubernatorial nomination after a hard fought runoff. Shivers led 53.17 percent with 768 031 votes to Yarborough's 676 320 as results from 216 of 252 counties were tallied.

Potter County Backs Allan Shivers in Landslide Primary

Potter County favored Allan Shivers in the Texas primary yesterday by 826 votes as 7,008 backed Shivers and 6,182 backed Yarborough out of 15,190 total. The county also supported Judge Few Brewster for re election to the Texas Supreme Court, 7,305 to 4,476 for Alfred Scott, with Yarborough losing strength in south and west Amarillo areas.
