In a tight run off Potter County voters elected Paul Gaither sheriff and John Halley County Commissioner No. 1. Stevenson carried the Senate race while Lyndon Johnson trailed. Unofficial totals from 26 of 27 boxes show Gaither 6 765 to Cherryhames 3 674 with Halley 4 689 to Cole 4 537. The general election is set for November 2.

Final Tabulation May Be Required To Settle Issue
Lyndon Johnson trailed Coke Stevenson in the Texas US Senate race as the Texas Election Bureau released late night figures. Stevenson led by 854 votes after 244 of 252 counties reported with 132 complete, Johnson gaining 2,907 in Hidalgo while Wilbarger counts were corrected for an earlier overcount. The final tabulation for the night kept Stevenson ahead by a slim margin.

Symphony Board Opens Two Days for Amarillo Phil Reservations

Plainview Sanitarium and Clinic polio ward admitted four new patients from Friday noon to Saturday noon, bringing the total under treatment to 29. Four killed in Highway 287 collision near Amarillo
At 1 15 this Sunday morning a car truck wreck at the Highway 287 Pullman Road intersection seven miles east of Amarillo killed four people and injured two others. Cooter Young 30 driver of the truck and three young Clarendon residents Madeline Osteen Claude Doris McKee were identified by belongings.
