Melrose Man Admits Killing Airman Dumped Body in Well
John Doyle Burton 24, of Melrose N M admitted beating Airman First Class Clifford Freshour 31 of Cannon AFB with a jack handle after drinking. He pulled the body from a 15 foot well north of Clovis and burned remains. Burton said the killing occurred after a confrontation in uncertain Curry DeBaca or Roosevelt counties. He was picked up near Albuquerque on car theft suspicion and later charged with murder and war theft.
