Drought Ends Slowly as Texas Panhandle Sees Rain

The Amarillo area records 0.45 inches of rain by Saturday night while Texline Dalhart Channing and northwest Texas receive up to 1.5 inches. Herman T. Collman calls the rain "the beginning of the end of the drought" though more is expected. Lightning interrupts power in San Jacinto and Country Club. one house is struck with minimal damage.

Three Men Die In Plane Crash Near Sheboygan

An aircraft performing a wing-over exploded and crashed about a thousand feet from the Sheboygan airport. Dead are Elmer Blumenberg of St. Cloud, Gus Darrow of Sheboygan a local wrestler, and Marsall Field formerly of Madison the pilot. Witnesses saw flames from the motor as the ship took off. All three perished instantly.

Lone Bandit Steals 200 In Houston Store Heist

A lone bandit entered a Houston suburban store before 3 p.m. and after buying goods held up the manager with a pistol, leaving with 200 dollars in cash and checks. The thief fled in a waiting car driven by a woman, with two customers and clerks present.

Grand Jury To Hear Payne Case In Amarillo Monday

The Potter County grand jury will be impaneled Monday morning to hear the Payne case. Judge Henry Bishop will deliver the charge, and an indictment may be returned that afternoon pending the investigation. Payne has been in Hutchinson County jail at Stinnett since August 5 and will be moved to Amarillo early this week for arraignment and trial considerations.

Eddie Schneider Heads To Final Jump For Transcontinental Record

Eddie Schneider an 18 year old Jersey City aviator will start the last lap of his East West trans continental flight at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning in Columbus Ohio. He landed at Port Columbus at 3 35 PM after flying non stop from Wichita Kansas in 7 hours 45 minutes. Weather over the Appalachians delayed plans to fly direct to Roosevelt Field and he will remain in Columbus overnight.

U S 6th Highway Route Set for Carson County

Sterling Leads in Texas Governor Runoff Victory

Houston and Dallas reports show Ross Sterling winning the Democratic governor runoff with about 860,000 votes tallied and a lead over Ferguson. The night also names winners for lieutenant governor James Witt, attorney general Allied, treasurer Lockhart, agriculture McDonald, and railroad commissioner Neff.
