Eisenhower Prepares for Europe Trip After Return to Washington

President Eisenhower ends a 17 day period of vacationing at his Gettysburg estate and plans a worldwide swing to Europe. He will meet Khrushchev in Washington for a 13 day U S visit and then travel to Germany Britain and France for diplomacy with Adenauer Macmillan and de Gaulle. Secretary of State Herter accompanies the President on European rounds.

Vada Bell Crowned Miss Wheatheart of the Nation

In Perryton Vada Bell an 18 year old Wellington brunette and West Texas State College sophomore won the Miss Wheatheart of the Nation title. Sally Shaffer of Amarillo finished as runner up with Pat Farren of Spearman in third. The winner will tour Toronto Canada for a week as guest of the Canadian National Exposition.

One Hurt In Sunray Crash

Son Arrested in Death of Quay County Man

A. P. LaBoon, 52, of Quay NM, died at Tucumcari General Hospital from severe head injuries. His 26-year-old son Arthur Leslie LaBoon was detained by Quay County authorities after allegedly fighting over use of a pickup truck. The son admitted drinking and told of a lengthy struggle that began in the house and ended in the yard.

Khrushchev Plans Nuclear Visit Itinerary

Soviet Premier Nikita S. Khrushchev will visit six cities beyond Washington upon Eisenhower’s invitation. Planned stops include New York Los Angeles San Francisco Des Moines Ames Iowa and Pittsburgh with a possible Iowa farm visit. He will also visit Camp David arriving September 15 and departing September 37 per White House confirmation.

Families Fear Kin Caught in Temblor

The Associated Press reports mounting worry as nine dead are confirmed and many travelers remain missing after the Hebgen Lake quake. Amarillo Man Dies in Head On Crash

An Amarillo man, 41, Henry Earl Jackson, died after his car struck a utility pole at Sanborn and Colorado while on a two day pass from the Veterans Hospital. Investigators said excessive speed caused the crash which snapped a 44,000 volt pole cross arm. Jackson died en route to Northwest Texas Hospital. His body was taken to Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home. he is survived by his mother and stepfather.
