WAAC to WAC Medal Authorized for All Members
The War Department announced the Women's Army Corps will grant a service medal to all WAAC members who transfer to the WAC when the organization becomes the WAC. The medal will be produced after the war, but the ribbon may be worn immediately upon transfer. The ribbon features a moss green center with moss green and other colored bands.

Left-handed boy loses finger at water pump on Johnson ranch
Fifteen-year-old Edward Johnson, son of Mr and Mrs Eddie Johnson, stopped a water pump after his left middle finger was mangled. He walked two miles to headquarters, then rode to McLean for a doctor. He refused to have his father notified yet, hoping for rest and a new saddle upon his return.

William Granfelt Dies in New York City
Word has been received of the death of William M. Granfelt in New York City. His wife is Margaret Grant of this city. He died August 13 after a 17 week illness. Services were held August 15 and burial followed in New York. Mrs. Granfelt is sister to Mrs. Bill Armstrong and Miss Prudence Grant, both formerly of Amarillo. Her mother, Mrs. M. O. Grant, also formerly of this city, now resides in New York. Both women will remain in New York.

Red Cross Seeks Packages For Americans Held In Japan
Red Cross chapters urge eligible senders to mail parcels for Americans held by Japan on the Gripsholm. With the sailing date moved to about Sept 1, parcels must reach New York by Aug 27. next of kin with labels from the Provost Marshal General office may participate.
