Remains of 43 sailors from the British submarine L-55 raised by Soviet Russia from Kaporsk bay have been coffined awaiting British instructions to ship to England. The L-55 was sunk in a naval engagement with Bolshevik war vessels nine years ago. the captain’s skeleton was found at the steering wheel.

County Tax Rate Set At T6 Cents

The county tax rate for next year will be 75 cents, set by the commissioners. Potter County valuations rose by 24 million dollars, totaling 3514 millions. State rate cut to 64 cents yields combined 1.39 with county and state shares. With 38 million valuation, total income equals 549600, split 285000 to county and 254600 to the state. Three Convicts Return to Blue Ridge Prison Farm

Three convicts, burned in a July 28 fire at Blue Ridge prison farm, were returned to the farm after recovery. Five others remain hospitalized. three inmates died. The blaze started when a lit match ignited movie film in the dining hall.

Plane crash at Waco Airport injures two persons

Waco Aug 18 Lloyd Martin pilot and S C Haralson passenger both of Waco escaped with minor bruises when their airplane crashed from about 100 feet at the Waco Municipal airport. The plane was demolished when the motor stalled after takeoff.

Missing Amarillo taxi driver and mysterious passenger

Amarillo taxi driver Lewis “Shorty” Avritt and a man believed to be Nolan McCaleb disappeared after leaving August 8 for a two to three day trip. Police note McCaleb used multiple aliases and has a criminal record, and no word has come since August 10. Avritt, 24, and McCaleb, about 33, were in a 1927 Buick Master Six with license 2635 and numerous clues point to foul play amid uncertain miles and abrupt silence from both men.
