Sheriff M E Cantrell of Canyon asked Amarillo police to assist in arresting seven Negroes and four white men transporting seven cars toward Lubbock. Cantrell did not yet know the case details or if any cars were stolen. Officers from Amarillo and highway patrol aided the arrest.
Detroit August 12 Hudson motor cars rise by 45 to 95 dollars as rising material and labor costs push prices up. George H. Pratt Hudson vice president in charge of sales cited higher costs. Hudson joins General Motors Packard and Kaiser-Frazer as manufacturers lifting prices in the past two weeks.
Forecast for Amarillo and West Texas shows scattered thundershowers and little temperature change this afternoon through tonight and Wednesday. Highs near 93 in Amarillo and 85 to 95 in northwest New Mexico, with a 0 to 1 inch rainfall report this morning. Tropical conditions are not expected to persist. no significant temperature shifts anticipated.
City commission tentatively set September 23 for an election on proposed charter amendments. City counsel Ben Manning prepared the ordinance to call the election as the panel planned a 5 PM meeting. Major change would raise general tax limits from 1.30 and 0.50 for water works to 2.50 to fund city operations. Another amendment would allow city limits to be extended by ordinance. Amendments proposed by a committee led by R. E. Underwood and appointed by Mayor Hagg.
