Murphysboro Illinois August 12 local aviator Paul Montgomery was arrested by Sheriff Flanigan amid an inquiry into the airplane bombing of mining properties near Providence Kentucky. A warrant had been issued in Dixon Kentucky and three men from the Kentucky coal field aided authorities. Montgomery denied flight involvement and asked to consult counsel after arrest. His orange black monoplane matches the general description of the craft that dropped nine bombs near Providence yesterday. He admitted an early flight to sober up after Sunday night drinking and said a strange plane seen near Pinckneyville was too distant to identify.
President Hoover announced he would cancel his proposed tour of the Rocky Mountain Parks to stay in Washington and aid the capital during the drought crisis. In Michigan, over 75 fires scorched timberlands across multiple counties driving travel restrictions between Cedar River and Stevenson in Mackinac County. In Kansas, a man took his own life and killed his children due to unemployment pressures.
A motorcade of about 30 cars carried Ferguson supporters from Amarillo to Clarendon for a campaign rally tonight in support of his wife’s gubernatorial bid. Local organizers expect a large crowd and a railroad workers delegation will attend in overalls. WDAG Amarillo will broadcast the Ferguson speech at 8 p.m.
Ernest Smith the newly elected city commissioner in a special run off on August 1 will not take the oath of office until August 19. The city commission will meet as a board of canvassers Tuesday night to verify the vote. The official canvass was planned for last week but no session was held for lack of business.

Fort Worth August 13 Detective Chief Jackson found a death threat note on his desk at Central station reading Warning You will be killed before midnight with a red death inscription and skull drawing. The message may have been meant for him or for Chief Lee whose office is upstairs and who handles department mail.
A. M. Ferguson of Sherman writes to a Dallas paper that he cannot support Jim Ferguson's platform and will vote for Rows Sterling in the August primary. He derides Jim Ferguson as self serving and disconnected from common people, noting his focus on his wife Ma and supporters who contribute.
British airmen saved the few remaining women in Parachinar as Afridi tribesmen joined by the Orakzais redirected their assault from Peshawar westward. Tribesmen retreated under Royal Air Force bombing, with reinforced troops sent toward Peshawar to guard the region. Looting of villages continues, and rail lines are disrupted as troops pour into the troubled area.
Greater St. Louis pilots Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine neared the 554 hour endurance refueling record at Lambert Field. From 7 11 am CST they logged 528 hours with 27 to go and planned extended stay while receiving a $100 per hour bonus up to $7,000 as long as they remained aloft.
Jimmy Donahue of Colorado Springs said he jumped from about 28 000 feet at the Pikes Peak air meet closing program. The descent lasted over 30 minutes and left him unconscious upon landing. Pilot O M Monier cited a failed plane altimeter after 26 000 feet and a government barograph will be sent for calibration. Donahue challenges the 26 000 foot Army record, reportedly without oxygen.
Two bandits robbed Logan Bank in Logan New Mexico about noon today. They locked the cashier and stenographer in the vault and fled in a green Chevrolet coupe with about $1,000. Officers across the region are alerted to apprehend the robbers.
Former Governor James E Ferguson and his wife Miriam move toward the nomination while Ross Sterling heads toward Memphis as Texas Democratic gubernatorial race heats up. Ferguson accuses Sterling of bank loan schemes from his 15 years ago including pressing for time to repay. The Dallas speeches push for renewed party momentum and critical for the upcoming primary.
Charles Kern and his wife, prominent St Louis residents, were reported kidnapped while en route to Toledo. Kern left with a $79 bank draft to close a real estate deal, accompanied by two men and a suspected Chapman Moran gang. Police in Toledo and nearby towns searched highways as authorities pursued the case and possible trap.
