Fred Cole of Artesia New Mexico proposes eight West Texas counties join New Mexico He says he will introduce a January resolution in the New Mexico Legislature to annex El Paso Hudspeth Culbertson Loving Reeves Jeff Davis Presidente Brewster counties by extending the eastern boundary to the Rio Grande Cole notes a majority of state senators support the idea and he is unopposed for re election in November He is vice president of the First National Bank and the proposal continues on page 2.

Amarillo businessman Wolf Herring, 74, founder of Herring Furniture Co., died at 2 15 p m in Northwest Texas Hospital after an illness of two months. A resident since 1908, he lived at 3217 Travis and had led the firm at 7th and Taylor, expanding from a small 14 by 18 foot shop to a three story building. Funeral services are set for 4 p m Monday at Griggs Pioneer Chapel with burial at Llano Cemetery.

Amarillo Delgates Shift To Moderates In Panhandle Conventions

Early reports from Potter and Randall county Democratic conventions in the Panhandle show moderates and conservatives gaining ground on Gov. Price Daniel's unity program. In Potter County Amarillo, moderates with 450 of 600 precinct votes backed DOT opposition. in Randall County Canyon conservatives supported state party lines. More than 200 delegates attended, and seating favored DOT opponents amid tense remarks.

Divorcee confesses in murder of wealthy lover in Indianapolis

Minnie Nichol a divorcee emerged from a two day coma and confessed to shooting her 54 year old lover Forrest Teel at his Cadillac outside his new girlfriend Laura Mowrer s apartment. 22nd Annual XIT Reunion Nears Close

Arlington teacher is Miss Texas of 1958

Miss Texas 1958 is Mary Nell Hendricks a second grade teacher from Arlington. The 22 year old former high school and college graduate won Saturday night before about nine hundred in Stephen K. Austin auditorium. Hendricks earned Miss Talent on Thursday and will represent Texas in the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City September 1 through 6. The Jaycee pageant also awarded first runner up Janet Ruth McMullan and second runner up Darrell Ann Currie with Miss Congeniality going to Wilma Frances Le Ribeus.

Daniel Forces Sweep To Control Of Texas Democratic Party

Gov. Price Daniel and conservative forces gained a clear lead in county conventions and appeared headed for state convention control. TABULATIONS show conservatives over 2000 votes to liberals about 1400. Dallas and Tarrant counties went conservative, Harris and Bexar backed liberals, Yarborough failed to curb the tide.
