Federal rent control took effect August 1 in Amarillo and Potter and Randall Counties. Charles B. Carden of the Dallas OPA led the first day at 405 Fisk Building, receiving tenants and landlords with questions about evictions, adjustments, and registration requirements for rental properties.
Sgt. Pat C. Noel of Memphis is reported missing in action over Europe last Tuesday via a cable from London to his father T. E. Noel. A Royal Canadian Air Force pilot on active duty in England since January, he enlisted in 1941 while a Texas A. and M. student and earned his wings in December. He is 21, and his father presides over the First National Bank of Memphis.
Charles B. Carden acting area rent director urged Amarillo property owners to rent out spare rooms immediately to meet defense housing needs. He noted some owners hesitate due to rent control concerns and the risk of losing possession, but said procedures exist to set fair rents and evict only in justified cases. He also explained that owners may lease with written agreements and that remodeling needs can justify gaining back space under the rent law.
An American bomber crashed in Northwest Greenland amid sleet and storm, forcing a water landing. Rescuers arrived after 45 days when wind cleared ice, guiding a flying boat to retrieve Pilot J Shaw Webb, Navigator Robert Franks, and Radioman Louis A Caldwell. An 80 mile per hour wind finally opened landing space for the rescue.

Oldham County and Vega residents commit cash toward the museum building fund under chairmanship of Her mon Pipkin with Raymond Thompson directing fundraising. Contributions include listed donors from Vega and appeals to ex students of West Texas State College as Plainview notes.
Navy softball players in Dallas study amid training for the Army Navy game in Amarillo next Sunday. Sailors from Texas will face the Amarillo Army Air Forces Glider School team for championship honors and may be overnight guests of the Army for the first time when invited to the Army camp.
