American Cavalry Surround Viet Cong In Central Highlands
Two American cavalry units trapped a Viet Cong company in a narrow valley near Chu Pong Mountain, about two miles from the Cambodian border. Some 400 troopers from the 1st Air Cavalry Division pressed an estimated 100 Viet Cong with air, artillery and riot gas, as darkness fell. At least 10 Viet Cong were reported dead. one Skyraider aircraft and pilot were lost over the Mekong.

Striking Rail Firemen Appeal Delayed by Court

In Saigon hundreds of Buddhist students screamed anti US slogans and tried to storm the capital’s radio station. government police with machine guns halted the siege as 1,000 demonstrators fled the main doorway. Amarillo Records Hit 87 Degrees With Warm Southwest Winds
Strong southwesterly winds pulled warm air from the Tri-State area to Amarillo where a new high temperature record reached 87 degrees. The old April 2 record of 86 degrees stood since 1928 and tied in 1932. A cool front set to pass may drop afternoon readings to the mid 60s.

Appaloosa Sells for 60500 at Tri-State Fair Grounds
High Hand, the famed Amarillo Appaloosa stallion, sold Saturday for 60500, a breed record at the Tri-State Fair Grounds auction. The Colorado syndicate headed by Harold Calhoun of Byers purchased the horse, one of 139 Appaloosas in the sale.
