Three live toads were unearthed from an Indian mound in northeastern Beaver County Oklahoma two miles northeast of Gate. Curator J B Thoburn says the mound may be 300 to 400 years old if hand built, possibly older if natural. Toads were sealed but moved freely after liberation. remains of a lodge fire pit nearby suggest habitation by Comanche or Kiowa peoples until about 50 years ago.
