Phillip L. Leewald and three fellow midshipmen from Texas Oklahoma and New Mexico were killed when their car collided head on with a truck near Memphis Tennessee. Charles Leveritt and Frank Thomas were injured as others died in the accident while en route to the Naval Academy at Annapolis after a furlough.
