Fort Worth officials unveil a state planning board with members from Fort Worth Austin Lubbock and Amarillo. The group will seek WPA and PWA work for Texas and push for a cotton research laboratory while planning state exhibits for New York and California expositions.
Dr. RP. Bishop, 68, of Channing, died in an Amarillo hospital at 10 30 Monday night. A well known Plains physician for over 20 years, he had many friends in Amarillo. Funeral services are planned for 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Channing with Rev. Horace Brooks officiating.
Senator Logan of Georgia calls for outright repeal of the neutrality act and proposes supplying England and France with all needed materials except manpower if war comes. He argues there can be no neutrality in a war and predicts controversy in Congress over repeal and possible special sessions.
The Texas State Employment Service reported August placements of 2,670 through offices in Dum as, Borger, Pampa, Childress, Plainview, Lubbock, and Amarillo. Government jobs accounted for 230 and private employment 2,467 with categories spanning agriculture, mining, building, manufacturing, services, retail, personal service, hotels, government, and relief projects including CCC.
Captain George F E T Eyston, holder of the world land speed record, will make a 10 minute stop at English Field in Amarillo at 5 46 this afternoon aboard a TWA airliner. He recently drove the Thunderbolt to 357.50 mph at Bonneville Utah and is en route to England for another challenge, following a year ago visit to Amarillo after establishing the record with the same car.
The State department strongly advised Americans to avoid travel to Europe due to growing difficulties in passage home. About 88,000 American residents in Europe could be in war zones, with many born in Europe returning there for permanent residence.

Texas Tech football team from Lubbock will lay over in Amarillo for 25 minutes and then head to Buffalo, N.Y., to face the Duquesne Dukes Friday night. Coaches Pete Cawthon and Dutch Smith lead the squad as they plan a workout in St. Louis en route. They arrive at 4:25 PM at the Santa Fe depot.
Dr. Bishop a longtime Hartley County health officer and local physician for the Denver railway in Channing died recently. Interment will be in Channing cemetery near his wife’s grave. he resided in Panhandle 1914 to 1918 and retired from practice about five years ago. Survivors include daughter Mrs Roscoe Wiseman of Hartley and sons Grady Bishop of Dallas and Hubert Bishop of Channing.
