Injured Woman Found in Street near Third and Belleview

A severely injured young woman was found at the northwest corner of Third and Belleview after an early morning incident. Police say witnesses reported a two-tone 1938 Cadillac circling the block before discovery. J. L. King said suspects claim she jumped from a moving car. they are held awaiting charges. Miss Woodall was taken to the hospital in noncritical condition.

Riots in Austria as Reds seize offices and disrupt Vienna

In Vienna and several Soviet zone towns in Austria Communists occupied government buildings and warehouses, halted rail traffic with a flash strike, and staged anti American demonstrations injuring at least eight policemen. Russian tanks aided the Reds as 20,000 protested a new price wage deal. A US Army sergeant was slightly injured and two British officials were manhandled.

First Yank Captives Freed In Korea Jail Break

In Yongdong Korea 24th Division tank crews liberated three American prisoners after 25 days in North Korean custody. Seamen Staff Sergeants Freede MacKrall and Pvt James E Martin were released along with one other. They described rough police treatment but decent army conduct and shared C rations gum and whiskey.

Nurse Heroine Among Survivors After Japan C-54 Crash

A U S Air Base in Japan reports a C 54 crash on takeoff from Korea Strait killing one and listing 22 missing with 28 survivors. 80 Britons Die In Flaming Mine

A severe coal mine blaze trapped about 80 men while another 120 escaped on hands and knees as smoke and heat thwarted rescuers. After nine hours the National Coal Board announced sealing off the burning section and abandoning rescue efforts. Sir Herbert Houldsworth and union leaders stated alive recovery was impossible. The community of 6,000 gathered at the pit head as rescue teams battled the inferno in the conveyor belt area deep underground.

The Weather Bureau forecast fair skies and warmer conditions across Amarillo and vicinity with showers possible Wednesday night. Highs near 79 today and 84 tomorrow, lows around 53 and 51, and 1.12 inches of precipitation logged. Panhandle forecast calls for drying today and tomorrow, more showers by Wednesday night. West Texas expects considerable cloudiness and warmer today and tonight, with partly cloudy Wednesday. New Mexico trends generally fair through Wednesday with a few isolated showers in the east.
