Governor William B. Ross of Wyoming is gravely ill. A team of physicians met to discuss immediate surgery after his illness followed a speaking engagement in Laramie Tuesday night.
In Berne on September 25 a landslide devastated the mountain village of Somo in the Tessincanton, crushing twelve houses and burying others. Several residents were killed or swept away, with three bodies recovered so far.
Auto and motorcycle racers gather in Amarillo for a two day program sanctioned by the American Automobile Association. Races include time trials and multiple class events with purses from 25 to 275 dollars, and S. Sapp of Waco adds an M. G. C. Special entry, car No. 80.
Mrs. Fern King of Kingfisher Oklahoma the only woman member of a State Board of Agriculture visits the Tri State fair in Amarillo to oversee the Oklahoma exhibit. She and publicity director Mrs J L Landrum announce a giveaway of five bushels of peaches this afternoon.
Football at the ex position track opens with the Amarillo Golden Sand storm meeting the Canyon Eagles at 10 30. Public schools in Amarillo and Canyon close for the event and hundreds are expected to attend. ref is Oscar Eckhart, Canyon assistant coach and former Texas Longhorn sensation.
Mayor Be S Blasdel urged all businesses and residents of Amarillo and the Panhandle to close by 2 PM tomorrow to boost attendance at the fair. The closing committee of the Amarillo Business Men's Association passed the plan, with schools also to dismiss and Canyon Hereford travelers expected.
Theodore Roosevelt assistant secretary of the navy was nominated for governor by the New York Republican state convention. He won on the first ballot with a majority over his three rivals Col William Hayward Guy B Moore and Justice Arthur Tompkins.
In Austin on September 25 the question of whether married women can keep teaching jobs is submitted to S M N Marrs. A Yoakum teacher was discharged after marriage and appealed, but Marrs did not decide directly. He advised boards to include a clause ending contracts for single women who marry. He has not ruled on contracts lacking this clause.
Dr. George Butte Republican gubernatorial candidate will address Amarillo on Saturday evening October 4 likely at the Municipal auditorium. W. C. Kenyon, postmaster, received a telegram from W. E. Talbott, state manager, announcing the date and arranging plans. Kenyon says Butte is a major Texas figure and Amarillo residents will welcome his discussion of current issues.
Stunt flying begins tomorrow afternoon at the Tri-State exposition with Eagle Flying circus. A risky stunt features three wing walkers on a single plane. The report appears in the Amarillo hotel ad copy.
Auditors estimate paid fair admissions yesterday between 8500 and 9000 with today forecast 5000 to 7000. Attendance records likely to fall Friday and Saturday, with Saturday the peak. total for Mon Tue Wed around 29600. Bandits cut all wires into Truman Minnesota eighteen miles north of Fairmont and held residents at bay for over three hours early today while robbing the bank. Officers were alerted by automobile carriers. Loot amount not disclosed. The Coffee Shop at the Amarillo Hotel is famous for food.
Tomorrow is Amarillo Booster Day at the Tri-State Fair. The fair is pitched as the area’s top exposition and a key ad engine for Northwest Texas. Attendees are urged to bring families and neighbors to boost turnout over the remaining three days, with auto racing headlining Saturday under Toney Chisum.
